BAD GATEWAY HC MEGG & MOGG

(W) Simon Hanselmann (A) Simon Hanselmann (CA) Simon Hanselmann

Simon Hanselmann's previous best-selling books, Megahex, Megg & Mogg in Amsterdam, and One More Year have all cemented Hanselmann as one of the most exciting graphic novelists of his generation and Bad Gateway is the magnum opus that those books have been building towards. Megg & Mogg's fraught relationship careens into psychological depths that Hanselmann has previously only hinted at as his eternally-stoned, slacker characters begin to reflect the psychological toll that their years of insouciance and self-medication has inflicted.

BUTCHERY HC

(W) Bastien Vives (A) Bastien Vives

This poetic graphic novel explores the emotional bloodbath of a romance gone awry. A young man and woman fall for each other and all is sweetness and light. But when their relationship crumbles, they each must endure the ensuing emotional fallout. Starting from this simple premise, Bastien Vivès crafts an affecting narrative about the mercurial and tempestuous nature of romance and why we pursue it anyway. The Butchery is composed of the little moments that make and break a relationship: lively dancing, silent strolls hand in hand, stilted phone calls, tearful pillow talk.

CRISIS ZONE TP

(W) Simon Hanselmann (A) Simon Hanselmann

In March 2020, as the planet began to enter lockdown, acclaimed cartoonist Simon Hanselmann set out to make the greatest webcomic ever created! As the Covid-19 pandemic continued to escalate, Crisis Zone escalated right alongside with daily posts on Instagram. Crisis Zone is presented here, unabridged and uncensored, with a slew of added pages and scenes deleted from the webcomic, as well as an extensive "Director's Commentary" from Hanselmann himself. Bouncing rapidly between comedy, horror, action, and relational soap-operatics, Crisis Zone refuses to take the pedal off the gas as we all hurtle towards unknown destinations.

EC JACK KAMEN AL FELDSTEIN MARTIAN MONSTER HC

(W) Gardner Fox (A) Jack Kamen (CA) Jack Kamen

Sci-fi classics from an EC Comics great! In Jack Kamen's first stories for Weird Science and Weird Fantasy, he and writer Al Feldstein explore the unexpected twists and turns that arise from the unintended consequences of new inventions such as matter transmitters, molecular duplicators, shrinking rays, time machines, and too-perfect robots. Well-known for his sure hand and slick line and his chic depictions of 1950s-style glamour, Kamen delights in bringing Feldstein's wicked scripts to graphic life-but there's surprisingly sharp social and political commentary as well, with stories that foreshadow the threat of climate change and the perils of artificial intelligence. From the creation of a miniature civilization to femmes fatale from the future to the precise prediction of the sun going nova, you'll find this collection of sci-fi shockers to be some weird science, indeed!

EC JACK KAMEN ZERO HOUR & OTHER STORIES HC

(W) Al Feldstein (A) Jack Kamen (CA) Jack Kamen

With his wholesome approach, Jack Kamen stood out amongst the grand-guignol grunge, gritty realism, or futuristic dazzle of his fellow EC cartoonists ? but his brilliant editor/writer Al Feldstein found a way to exploit the surface innocence of his style with seemingly nice stories of romance gone horribly wrong, or future fantasies with an unexpectedly brutal twist. And nowhere did Kamen's clean-but-lush graphics work better than in the stories he created for EC's science-fiction comics. The title story, "Zero Hour" (one of three in this book adapted from works by Ray Bradbury), set in a Spielbergian suburban idyll, is particularly well served by Kamen's surface innocence; "A Lesson in Anatomy" works similar magic, with its Mayberry-esque setting veering into alien-invasion terror. If there was any devil in Kamen, it came out in his loving depiction of the female face and form, and you could see why his hapless heroes were often fatally entranced with them ? as in "Punishment Without Crime" (Bradbury again), "He Who Waits!" (a scientist finds an extreme way of rejoining his eight-inch-tall inamorata), and "Miscalculation!" (the lucky recipient of a package from the future literally brews his own harem); even the supercomputer in "Only Human!" proves vulnerable to a beautiful woman's charms. Zero Hour and Other Stories contains 22 classic EC yarns ? plus the usual all-new biographical, historical, and critical essays that have made Fantagraphics' EC Library series the ultimate version of these classics.

ETERNAUT HC (CURR PTG)

(W) Francisco Solano Lopez (A) Francisco Solano Lopez (CA) Francisco Solano Lopez

A seminal, Latin American sci-fi classic - back in print! Fantagraphics is proud to publish, for the first time in English, a graphic novel so powerful its main character's image (much like Che Guevara's) has become a potent symbol of the endless struggle against oppression; "Juan Salvo" appears on walls and in subways throughout Latin America to this day. This seminal Argentinian science fiction graphic novel was originally released as a serial from 1957-59. Juan Salvo, its inimitable protagonist, along with his friend Professor Favalli and the tenacious metalworker Franco, face what appears to be a nuclear accident, but quickly turns out to be something much bigger than they imagined. Cold War tensions, aliens of all sizes, space-and time travel-this one has it all. The Eternaut is also thinly disguised political allegory: its writer, He ctor Germa n Oesterheld (HGO), because he was involved in groups who protested the military dictatorship, was "disappeared" and presumed dead in 1977. Classical artist Francisco Solano Lo pez (who had to flee Argentina for Spain) illustrated the book in a gritty, realistic style. This collaboration between two of the biggest names in Latin American comics is still powerful: the story of Juan Salvo, fighting to save Argentina and the world, lives on in sequels, retellings, and adaptations.

Hanselmann's characterization and visual creativity mines lifetimes of pathos from the slapstick simplicity of its psychedelic, absurdist premise. You will believe an Owl can cry. Collecting all of Hanselmann's classic Megg & Mogg webcomics plus over 70 pages of new material.

One More Year continues to give substance to the characters and personalities of its protagonists in ways that never fail to surprise, delight, and horrify.

WAKING UP SLEEPYHEAD HC

(W) Levin Kipnis (A) Noam Weiner

As all kids know, waking up in the morning is hard! So here are three children's stories that speak to the plight of the night owl. In the first story, Jake is snoozing so soundly that the whole neighborhood must wake him up. In the second, "Sleepyhead" wakes up late and her whole family races to get her ready for school. In the third, three lazy brothers strive to be the laziest one of all. Levin Kipnis' amusing rhymes are perfectly paired with Noam Weiner's hilariously expressive illustrations.
